Cheryl Corson Design, LLC

Cheryl Corson works to create outdoor environments that offer a deep sense of personal comfort, safety, and beauty to her clients. Her work is essentially collaborative in nature. Cheryl knows that our outdoor environments powerfully influence our sense of health and well being. And she confidently believes that these spaces have a greater capacity for positive change than is often assumed.

Cheryl enjoys both residential work and public projects - schools, playgrounds, hospitals, religious institutions, etc. She is a nationally certified playground safety inspector (CPSI) and frequently writes articles on landscape design, schoolyard environments and playgrounds.

Cheryl Corson

Design has always been central in Cheryl Corson's career. In the 1980s, her company Acadia Design produced hand woven accessories sold at Saks Fifth Avenue and Macy's, and featured in Women's Wear Daily. Later, she became a public art administrator for the states of Maine and Colorado, collaborating with artists, design professionals and community members to commission art for public places. This work drew her to landscape architecture. She received a Masters in Landscape Architecture from the Harvard Graduate School of Design in 1994. Since then she has practiced in the greater Washington, DC area. As part of a firm, she worked on projects such as the Verizon Center streetscape and plantings for the new IRS National Headquarters.

Cheryl also served as Continuing Education Manager for the American Society of Landscape Architects, playing a key role in creating the education program for their annual conferences. She has served as a guest critic for landscape architecture design studios at the University of Virginia, University of Maryland, and the Rhode Island School of Design. She has taught landscape design studios at the George Washington University and the University of Maryland. Cheryl served as a judge for Learning by Design, a national educational facilities design competition. She teaches a landscape design workshop series at the U.S. Botanic Garden twice each year.

In 2003 Cheryl launched her private practice, Cheryl Corson Design, LLC. She delights in her direct relationship with clients and craftsmen, and her ability to participate in every stage of the design and construction process.

Cheryl is a Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) through the National Playground Safety Institute

United States Botanic Garden
Cheryl teaches at the US Botanic Garden twice each year. In winter, she holds a design workshop series, and in summer a hands-on planting design series.
